How to install IPTV on Chromecast with Google TV (2026)
Use the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) as a native Android TV player: install TiviMate from Google Play, paste the PremiumIPTV M3U from WhatsApp. Do not rely on “cast this tab” from a laptop — that path drops frames on football.
Two products share a name — only one is useful
“Chromecast” in 2026 still means two things: the old HDMI dongle that only receives a cast, and Chromecast with Google TV (and newer Google TV Streamer) that has a launcher, Play Store and TiviMate. PremiumIPTV needs the second class. If your dongle has no remote and no apps, it cannot hold a playlist. Buy the Google TV model or a Firestick.
Casting a phone browser to the old dongle will look like IPTV in a screenshot and fall apart on a camera pan. We will not troubleshoot that path.
Why TiviMate on Google TV
Google TV is Android TV with a movie-store skin. TiviMate ignores that skin and gives you an EPG, favourites, and multi-audio when the stream offers it. IPTV Smarters Pro is the fallback if you want the same app as an iPhone in the house.

Power, HDMI and the Ethernet myth
Use the official USB power supply. A TV USB port undervolts Chromecast and creates random reboots that look like CDN failure.
HDMI CEC is convenient and also the reason the Chromecast wakes at 03:00. Disable CEC for that port if the stick keeps powering the OLED.
There is no Ethernet jack on most Chromecast 4K units. Use a USB-C hub with Ethernet or accept excellent 5 GHz Wi-Fi. For football, the hub is cheaper than another “why did it freeze” chat.
4K, HDR and match-day settings
In Google TV display settings, set 4K 50/60 Hz to match your region’s football cadence where the TV allows it. Match content frame rate if the option exists — it reduces judder on 50 Hz UK feeds.
If HDR makes the pitch look neon, force SDR for live sport in the TiviMate playback settings. That is taste, not a broken playlist.
Chromecast versus Firestick versus a cheap Android box
Firestick 4K Max has Ethernet adapters that are well documented and a remote people already own. Chromecast wins if the household is already in Google’s ecosystem (Nest, Google TV on the panel). A random Android box from a marketplace wins only on ports and loses on updates.

- Update Google TV. Finish system updates so Play Store can see TiviMate.
- Install TiviMate. Search TiviMate in Play Store and install the free app first.
